Visitors with Disabilities
The Grade 1 listed house has two levels, the upper being unsuitable for wheelchair access. Entry into the lower level is possible by ramps.

On arrival in the Baron's Hall, please ask the Steward for the laptop display of the Staterooms. A 30 minute DVD has been made of the upper Staterooms so visitors in wheelchairs may watch this in the Hall.

Visually impaired visitors will find large print room guides available from the Baron's Hall Steward. There are also some Braille guides for blind visitors. Although the handling of exhibits is not allowed, our experienced Room Stewards are on hand in each room to answer questions.

The historic gardens consist of gravel and grass paths, with ramps to each level and plenty of benches throughout.

Entry to the Toy Museum is via 5 steps and therefore unsuitable for wheelchair visitors. Please ask the Toy Museum Steward for a copy of the pictorial guide.

The Garden Tea Room has access at the rear of the building for wheelchair visitors.

The Gift Shop is accessible by wheelchair but they do have limited aisle space.

 Visiting With Children
Visitors often tell us that they remember coming to Penshurst Place as a child. We like to ensure children have a memorable day out when they visit and hope it inspires an interest in our heritage and a life-long love of history.

There is a Guide Book for Young Visitors for sale, which is full of interesting facts for them to find in the house and colouring to complete when they get home. A Woodland Trail around the park is designed to stimulate awareness of the woodland environment, its plants and animals and the need to protect their habitat, as well as the best Venture Playground in the South East.

Throughout the school holidays children will find lots to do with the special activity trails,  workshops and events organized at no extra cost. Please refer to the events section.

Venture Playground

Children can let off steam in the superb Venture Playground which has a high walkway, slide and appropriate safety features.
