A Coronation Exhibition

A new display of Coronation memorabilia, that Viscount De L’Isle has made available from his private family archives, will be on display in the house.

Included amongst the exhibits an original, hard-bound leather Form and Order of Service from the coronation service held at Westminster Abbey, attended by the former Lord and Lady De L’Isle on 2 June 1953.

Available to view in the Family Photographic exhibition, from Saturday 2 June 2012 daily 12 noon – 4pm, for the rest of the season; free to visit for garden ticket holders.

New Painting on display in the house

A painting from the private collection of Viscount De L’Isle will be on loan in 2012 to Historic Royal Palaces for an exhibition at Hampton Court which is looking at Beauty in the 17th century.

Listed as a ‘Portrait of Nell Gwynne or Barbara Villiers, Duchess of Cleveland as Venus with a Putto in a Landscape after Peter Lely’, the painting is normally on display to Penshurst Place ticket holders in one of the state rooms.

The painting will be replaced by a painting from the private collection, not normally on display to the public – a lovely double portrait of Lady Lucy Percy, Countess of Carlisle and Lady Dorothy Percy Countess of Leicester, after Van Dyck.
